Creation of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum

Missions
  • Planning of museography, signage and multimedia studies,
  • Coordination and synthesis of project analysis at each stage: APS, APD, PRO
  • Project management – Controlling deadlines

In 2007, the United Arab Emirates and France signed an intergovernmental agreement to create a universal museum in Abu Dhabi, to be known as the “Louvre Abu Dhabi”. France has expertise in museum creation, and is committed to lending works from its national collections.

This major art museum with a universal vocation opens in November 2017, covering 20,000 m² of floor space, including 6,000 m² of exhibition space, and presenting around 600 works of art to the public.

Our missions for the creation of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum

In the design phase, setec organisation planned the architectural elements (floors, walls, ceilings) and furnishings (showcases, pedestals, signage, multimedia). In the construction phase, setec organisation was called upon to manage the museographic worksite and the installation of the permanent exhibition collections, and to this end set up planning and reporting tools and provide ongoing support for the work leading up to the inauguration.

Challenges

The creation of the Louvre Abu Dhabi was a much-anticipated, high-profile project. Throughout the project, the aim was to foster dialogue and cooperation between cultural experts and builders, and successfully meet the tight deadlines for installing the works to the complete satisfaction of the customer.
